The Student Dance Company is an entirely student-produced group, formed in the Fall of 1992 to give dancers the opportunity to create and showcase their own work. They elect their own officers, choreograph all their material, and put on their own production without the help of the school’s instructors. Their love of dance drives them to dedicate many hours to rehearsals in addition to their weekly classes. It is free to participate in Company, and it’s an incredible learning experience for all involved as they witness their creativity come to life, develop leadership skills, and gain training and teaching experience. Future choreographers and teachers are born out of this organization!
We will have an Introductory Meeting and Audition (November 16, 1-2 p.m.). We will also elect officers during this meeting. All students 4th grade and up are invited to participate. Company typically rehearses Friday afternoons and occasionally on Saturday mornings, beginning in January. This schedule will be determined by the newly elected officers. Again, there is no cost to participate in Company -- it is our way of encouraging our dancers to discover their potential as artists, community members and leaders. Since costumes are provided (and must be returned after the performance), the Company does do some fundraising, primarily through selling tights before Christmas Show and Recital to purchase new costumes. The students will present their show sometime in the Spring - date TBA.
