Thirty-five years ago, Dawn first held classes in one section of our current studio. She didn't have classes every night, and it was Dawn and one student teacher who taught them all. She'd been teaching lessons in the county for years, but that year she started her own business, and named it "Dawn's School of Dance." This tiny seed of inspiration had only begun to grow.
Fast forward a few years, and she was expanding, taking over the library. With the help of many teachers over the years, the two studios soon boasted full schedule four nights a week. Finally, the barber shop next door became the parent lounge, which is now bursting with dance moms (and dads and siblings) all week.
We continue celebrate all that DSD has come to mean to so many in our community. We hope this year will bring even more blessing to everyone DSD touches with our "dance for the love of dance" and our commitment spread joy, uplift and empower each other, and do our part help others. Enjoy the video below, created by former DSD student and teacher Madison Nguyen, and you'll see just how much fun we have dancing for the love of dance. Learn about our Open House if you'd like to join in! Looking forward to celebrating 35 years with you!!!
2020: OUR 30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
We started our 30th Anniversary Season strong, kicking-off the festivities with an Alumni trip to New York City in July 2019. The DSD Legacy Tour continued in January 2020, when we took dance team and company members on an epic journey to Los Angeles for an unforgettable dance experience. Our tour was to culminate with a Disney Trip in June 2020, but, sadly, it was cancelled as so many events were due to COVID-19. Our annual recital also met the same sad fate, but 2021 was our "phoenix" year and we rose up with a phenomenal show despite a few temporary adjustments for the continuing pandemic (Yes, we had dance recitals in a barn -- Why not! This is rural Virginia after all!). We continued the legacy with a victorious return to a true auditorium in 2022.
Enjoy the videos below from our official anniversary year and years past. Big thanks to the lovely and talented Miss Madison Nguyen for creating these beautiful compilations of our memories.
