DSD News

June 2017

Students of the year McKenzie Lockett and Samantha Martin auditioned for the Rockette's summer programs this winter, and then received an invitation to their mini-intensive. Both students were able to attend and travelled to NYC for the 3-day workshop June 22-24. They learned Rockettes routines as well as tips of the trade from their instrutors, who were veteran Rockettes. This awesome opportunity was a memorable trip! We are super proud of our mini-Rockettes!!!

April 2017

Our All-Start Tap Team participated in the National Cherry Blossom Festival parade again this year. Over 400 dancers from throughout the country participated, learning a moving routine that delighted the crowd! A great day for DSD in DC!

November 2016

Welcome to New York! DSD's seniors had a great trip to NYC. After seeing the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall it was their chance to dance when they got the opportunity to take a class at the Broadway Dance Center. The rest of their time was spent sight-seeing and enjoying great food and other fun experiences like ice skating.

July 2016

Dawn's School of Dance participated in National Dance Day, an event hosted by the Dizzy Feet Foundation. Students were encouraged to learn a short dance and submit a video to the Dizzy Feet Foundation along with students from across the country. This year it was presented by So You Think You Can Dance all-stars and Mackenzie Ziegler from Dance Moms. Our students met at the studio on July 30 to learn choreography and perform routine. Thanks to everyone who came out and participated. A special thank you to Madison Nguyen for organizing and hosting the event. The video looked great!

Dawn's School of Dance was invited to participate in Disney Performing Arts Onstage. Senior 1,2, and 3, Ballet and Jazz classes traveled by chartered bus to Florida in June of 2016. Students spent the week visiting Walt Disney World parks. They also had the opportunity to participate in a workshop taught by a professional Disney performer and choreographer. The week ended with students performing at the Waterside Amphitheater at Disney Springs. We are looking forward to our next trip to Disney during the summer of 2018.

Madison Jump

June 2016

Our own Madison Nuygen won a $1000 Graduate for Mas Times Square Yearbook Scholarship for writing about her passion for dance. Her picture was displayed on a billboard in Times Square on June 8th with other students from across the United States who shared their ambitions and passions. We are excited that she was chosen to be part of this select community of extraordinary students. We were honored to accompany her on her trip to NYC to experience this moment. Madison is a rising Senior who participates in our Student Dance Company, is a member of our Competition Dance Team.

March 2016

Dawn's School of Dance Competition Team dancers who had performed at the Russell Athletic Bowl were asked to dance on television for CBS's Virginia This Morning. The girls were asked to perform two numbers. They chose to showcase the pre-game show dance choreographed by Mandy Moore and a lyrical piece choreographed by our own Miss Tiffany Allen.

December 2015

Eight members of the Senior Competition Team and Student Dance Company performed at the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando Florida. Students traveled by van to Florida on December 26, 2015. They spent the week rehearsing with famed choreographer Mandy Moore, best known for her work on Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. The girls also participated in dance workshops, and had the opportunity to spend two days at Universal Studios. The girls took the field with 220 dancers in front of 40,000 people to preform a pre-game routine with quest artists Nico and Vinz. They also performed in the half-time show with an 800 member marching band. The girls represented themselves, their parents, King William County and Dawn's School of the Dance wonderfully. We are very proud of these girls and all they have accomplished.
