It's been 30 years since Dawn first held classes in one section of our current studio. She didn't have classes every night, and it was Dawn and one student teacher who taught them all. She'd been teaching lessons in the county for years, but that year she started her own business, and named it "Dawn's School of Dance." This tiny seed of inspiration had only begun to grow.
Fast forward a few years, and she was expanding, taking over the library. With the help of many teachers over the years, the two studios soon boasted full schedule four nights a week. Finally, the barber shop next door became the parent lounge, which is now bursting with dance moms (and dads and siblings) all week.
This year we celebrate all that DSD has come to mean to so many in our community. We will kick-off the festivities with an Alumni trip to New York City in July -- the start of what we are now referring to as the DSD Legacy Tour! In January, we plan to take team and company members to Los Angeles for an unforgettable dance experience. We will wrap up the tour in June with our next Disney trip!
We are still hatching plans to add to the celebration throughout the year, so check back here for more information. Hint: there will probably be an opportunity for alumni participation in the recital, similar to what we did for our 25th Anniversary! We will be adding photos and videos right here, so check back often to enjoy this walk down memory lane!
