"The Night that the Sky Joined In" was a Christmas Show to remember, with a traveling theme that was sure to be a hit at DSD (some of the suitcases featured in the show have been on many of our real DSD trips!). Stuck in the airport trying to get home for Christmas, the fictional family in our show renewed their focus on the true meaning of Christmas after a fateful encounter with a stranger in the airport. We hope the story, singing and dancing touched your hears as well. Safe travels this Christmas everyone!

Dawn got see another one of our favorite alumni dance performing in the Nutcracker at Radford University. Paige looked beautiful on stage and made all of us at DSD very proud. The pic below is of a previous trip during which Dawn got to see the multi-talented Miss Lake do a halftime pom routine with her dance team. We can't wait to see more from Paige!!!
Another great trip to see the DSD alumni Bella (pictured here with us in her natural state, haha!) do a gorgeous performance at JMU, where she is studying as a dance major. We have been to see her performances several times and we are always blown away by their artistry. We are so incredibly proud of you Bella and can't wait to see more from you! Normal pic below.
We made it back to the most Magical Place On Earth! It was heartbreaking that we couldn't go in 2020 (Covid messed up our plans again!) and fulfill our every-other-year tradition, but luckily we got right back on track this year -- accepted happily by the Disney team to do another performance. On the way down we strolled down the Savannah River Walk and then we took a class taught by a theme-park performer. We had the Disney staff in the booth dancing along and saying we rocked our show. After that, it was all fun and games...we had a blast at three parks and squeezed in some time at our hotel pool. Another great trip in the books!
We love these talented dancers...can't wait to see the places they will go and the things they will do. Congrats Olivia, Emma, Ashlee, Emily and Gianna!
We couldn't wait to bring recitals back to the Robinson/Olsen Auditorium and it was all that we hoped it would be! Thanks for all of your support, and great shows everyone!!!!
After missing last year's Christmas Show and the 2020 Recitals, it was an amazing feeling to step back onto the "Big Stage" again. It was a beautiful show filled with joy! Thank you to all who attended and donated to help those in need. We hope you were filled with the true spirit of the season.
Thrilled to finally return to the Big Apple after Covid made us cancel last year's Senior trip, we had the time of our lives! One of the biggest groups ever joined us because we wanted to include alumni who had missed the trip and a few 2020 graduates who needed an extra dance experience after missing out on a lot. We saw the sights, took class at the Broadway Dance Center and marveled at the Rockettes' precision once again. So happy to be back in the City that Never Sleeps, we hardly did either! Great trip!
The DSD Competition Team went to the Southeast Showdown Nationals this year! Three of our dancers were honored as "Legends" and did an amazing performance with dancers from around the country after participating in additional workshops. The rest of our team put their heart and soul into their performances and received several awards, including a bid to the finals round. Great job team!
It's been a challenge, but this, our "phoenix year" was all about rising from the ashes, so it was an honor to present this year's recitals "Stronger Together." Determined to make recitals happen this year, we ended up with a week's worth of shows, some held at a local church, others at a local barn. It's rural Virginia after all, so we went with what works! So excited to be back on any stage, we had a triumphant show and the performances varied from dance-along-in-your-seat fun to laugh-out-loud to deeply emotional. The week culminated with the announcement of the winner of the Sue Hancock Scholarship, Bella Deem, and the Students of the Year: Gianna Fischetti, Emily Fogg, Olivia Phillips, and Emma Toney. Now we know we can do anything...can't wait to see what 2022 holds!
