DSD Dance Competition Team 2016-2017

General Information:

DSD Competition Team welcomes grades, 6-12 to audition. New this year, 5th grade will be able to audition by coach invitation only. Please note that age/grade will not determine which team you will be placed on. Technique and ability will be the determining factors for team placement. All members will be required to participate in a weekly conditioning class in addition to their weekly dance team practice. Students must be enrolled in ballet and jazz classes with our studio in order to audition and participate on the competition dance team. We will be fundraising to help cover some of the competition entry fees. We will do this throughout our entire season, (Aug.-May). Fundraisers are mandatory for all competition team members.

Please note that being a part of the Dawn’s School of Dance Competition Team is a lot of fun and very rewarding, but also a serious commitment of time and money. Competition dancers are required to take both, Ballet and Jazz classes throughout the entire season, (September-May). In addition, dancers have a separate weekly rehearsal to learn their competition routine which is an additional cost. The competition team must take priority over other team activities during the school year as you are not allowed to miss your regular class times or your competition choreography rehearsals.
I would like to ask our parents to please help your daughter prioritize her after school activities to ensure that homework is done so that she is able to make every class. The only acceptable absences are: a death in the family, or if your daughter is feverishly ill. Either acceptable absence will need to be previously discussed and approved ahead of time.
All team members are required to participate in fundraisers. I consider this an excellent opportunity for our students to bond and work on their teambuilding skills outside of the classroom. A fundraising schedule will be handed out in August.

Auditions will be held on August 6, 2016 at the studio (click here for more info), from 10:00-12:00. Hope to see you there!

Semester break-down:
Fall - We will take this time to learn; Lyrical and Musical Theatre routines.
Spring - Will consist of traveling to competitions and participating in the recital.
Cost break-down
- Costume fees: $100.00 (includes Lyrical and Musical Theatre)
- Warm-up jacket: TBD
- Makeup bag/ makeup: $75.00
- Lyrical shoes needed: Price TBD
- Fall semester tuition: $100.00 (Sept. - Dec.) Due 8/15/2016
- Spring semester tuition: $100.00 (Jan. – May.) Due 1/16/2017
