Dawn's School of Dance

Dawn’s School of Dance looks forward to a great 29th season! Last year’s amazing recital was the conclusion to another memorable year, during which we performed at several community events and we presented our annual Christmas Show, O'Night Divine. The Student Dance Company also put on an impressive show just before our annual recital. Our Competition Dance Team represented us very well at several competitions and performed on the Orange Bowl halftime show in Miami, Florida, whwere they worked with world-famous choreographers like Chris Judd. Our Seniors enjoyed another great trip to NYC in November, and we made our 7th trip to perform at Walt Disney World in June.

Everything we do, we do simply for the love of dance. We strive to maintain a relaxed and fun environment focused on learning and improving, not perfection. We recognize individual strengths and weaknesses and use them to better ourselves. We look forward to another exciting year sharing our love of dance with you!

Student Dance Company

Now is a great opportunity to join the student dance company! The Student Dance Company is an entirely student-produced group, formed in the Fall of 1992, to give dancers the opportunity to create and showcase their own work. They elect their own officers, choreograph all their material, and put on their own production without the help of the school’s instructors. Their love of dance drives them to dedicate many hours to rehearsals in addition to their weekly classes. It’s an incredible learning experience for all involved as they witness their creativity come to life, develop leadership skills, and gain training and teaching experience. Joining company will be fun filled, rewarding, and give you many opportunities to develop your skills! Information regarding auditions for new members coming soon.

DSD Dance Team

The Dance Team is an opportunity for our most dedicated students to exhibit their skills through competitive dancing. The team travels to several local comptetitions a year, and as won numerous trophies in their categories. Students in grades 7 and 8 may be a member of the Junior Team, and the Senior Team is composed of students grades 9 through 12. To participate, eligible students must try out for a spot on the team and are responsible for paying the associated fees and attending a weekly team class. Participants must be enrolled in both ballet and jazz classes, and must have an excellent attendance record in all classes (no unexcused absences. The Dance Team is coached by DSD instructor Tiffany King. Click here for more information.

O'Night Divine

Our annual not-for-profit Christmas production, O'Night Divine, illustrates the story of Christ's Holy Birth through song, dance and narrative. The program immerses the audience in the holiday spirit through a creative celebration of the true meaning of Christmas. All students are encouraged to participate in this faithful witness to their community, as the production is open to all ages and dance styles. There is a single $25 fee to participate (costumes are provided). Admission to the show is free, and donations are encouraged (all proceeds benefit King William Emergency Ministries). O'Night Divine is produced under the direction of DSD intructor Tiffany King, and students may contact her to sign up for the show at the beginning of the Fall Semester. Click here for more info.

DSD in Disney!

Every other year the Senior classes at Dawn's School of Dance apply to perform at Walt Disney World through their Disney Performing Arts Onstage program (and every year we've applied we've been accepted!). Participants perform on the main stage at Downtown Disney and experience what it is like to audition to become a Disney World performer during a workshop instructed by professional Disney choreographers. They also spend three days exploring the Disney parks with their friends! The trip, held sometime in June, is made possible through fundraising efforts, and students who participate are required to help with fundraising in addition to paying a fee. It is a great opportunity to dance at a spectacular venue!

New York, New York!

It's a wonderful town, especially for dancers, and that's exactly why Dawn decided to start a new tradition in 2012: a Senior trip to New York City. Dawn invited her graduating senior students to join her and a few chaperones in New York City last November, and she hopes to make it an annual trip. They took the train into the city that never sleeps, saw the sights and the city lights, and even went to see the Rockettes live at Radio City Music Hall. The trip was a cultural experience and fun way to bond. Dawn organized the trip, and all participants paid fees to cover the cost. Upon returning to King William, the students and Dawn choreographed a tribute to New York City using their favorite songs about the city. DSD in the Big Apple -- New York will never be the same again!

All-Star Tap Team

We love to make some noise, and there is no better way to do so than to tap your heart out with hundreds of tappers from across the country! Since 2013 Dawn's School of Dance's Senior tap classes have danced as part of the All-Star Tap Team. The team dances in the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in Washington D.C. in mid-April. The participating students learn a routine at our studio, and then rehearse that routine with a mass of tappers the night before the parade. The next day it is time to walk in the parade and tap for the crowd when it is time to do the routine. We also use the opportunity to explore our nation's capital when we are not performing. A great way to represent DSD and put us on the map!
